Our review on Toyota Raum
Raum was released for sale in May 1997. Its body is not only compact, keeping it convenient to drive, but also with high body height and MPV use. Shape of seats can be chosen among separate type, bench type, and double folding type (which seats can be folded onto the floor), depending on its grades. Wide doors and high seats make it easier for people to get on and off the car, comparing to other compact cars. Doors on both sides are slide doors, so that people can get on/off the car in narrow spaces, and drivers can put their luggage in rear seats with less movement.
Raum is equipped with column shift lever and foot parking brake, which allow drivers to walk through the front seats. Its rear seats can be folded in a 60/40 split to make them flat and enjoy seating arrangements. Its rear trunk opens horizontally, making it possible to open/close the door in easy posture and to load luggage in narrow spaces.
Interior is colored in two-tone style, with anti-bacterial disposal for steering, shift lever, front door side handle, and front door arm rest.
It has a 1.5 liter 4-cylinder DOHC engine, with the only option of 4-speed AT. Drive system can be chosen between FF and 4WD.
For safety management, Raum adopts collision safety body (Global Outstanding Assessment), ABS, brake assisting system, Dual SRS Airbag, pretensioner and force remitter seatbelts as its standard equipment.

Toyota Raum 2003/5
Toyota Raum equipped a door with a built-in center pillar for the front passenger seat. Together with rear slide door, the total length of the open door space will be 1500mm, which is a significant improvement for passengers to easily get on/off the car. Various assist grips are also set.
For the interior, Toyota Raum enables various seating arrangements: the rear seat can be split into 60/40 and passenger's seat can be folded forward by a simple operation. Furthermore, a center meter is located in a place where it can be seen easily, and a warning indicator is placed in front of the driver's seat with texts, making it easier for drivers to understand.
Some grades of Toyota Raum even adopt a smart air conditioner with an infrared sensor (the sensor detects the temperature around as well as the temperature of passengers to provide the most comfortable air conditioning control) and seat covers are made of materials of natural protein sericin, extracted from silk.
All grades of Toyota Raum are equipped with 1.5 liter DOHC engine and 4-speed AT. Transmission gear shifter is a gated-shifter, located on the vehicle's instrument panel.
All grades are eco-friendly and meet the "ultra-low emission" standard set by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport of Japan.
