  On 12 April 2016, Toyota announced a full model change for a compact car Passo. The third-generation Passo was developed under the concept of "Smart Compact Car for City Driving" and was focused on "economic efficiency", "convenient packaging" and "safe driving". Passo line-up included simple and friendly "Passo X", and smart and elegant "Passo MODA". Passo MODA is equipped with Bi-Beam headlamps, which combine functions of clearance lamp and low & high-beam LED headlights. Ring shape of LED clearance lamps gives them a high-quality sense.
  New Toyota Passo has 12 body colors to choose from, including 5 newly added colors - Magenta Berry Mica Metallic, Dark Emerald Mica, Lemon Squash Crystal Metallic etc. In addition to 12 standard colors, Passo MODA is also available in 7 two-tone paint patterns (optional). The interior of Passo is spacious by using wide horizontal instrument panel. Interior of Passo MODA is casual; the unique Magenta color is used as an accent in design of audio cluster, side registering and seat cover.
  While the body size of Toyota Passo was kept compact and easy to handle from the previous generation, the wheelbase was extended by 75 mm, making the indoor space roomier. Rear-seat passenger's foot space is especially widened, way wider than the one from the previous generation.
  The engine of Toyota Passo was improved in terms of combustion efficiency; atomization of fuel spray and dualizing of the intake port and injector were done. Thanks to high tumble and optimization of piston shape, compression ratio became 12.5:1. The maximum output and maximum torque of Passo engine - 51kw（69ps）/92N・m - stayed the same as the previous models, but fuel consumption set the highest record of 28.0㎞/L (JC08 mode) among registered gasoline cars. Fuel efficiency of 4WD Passo model was also improved by adopting an idling stop function and reached 24.4㎞/L. All models of Passo are eco-friendly.
  Passo body has successfully combined both high rigidity and lightness by using high-tensile steel for the side outer panels and resin for the parts of the front fender and the back doors. Stabilizer was adopted for front and rear suspension of 2WD model, which reduced a roll of vehicle and enhanced its controllability and stability. The undercarriage was optimally tuned to improve the comfort ride and safe driving. The chassis and pad structure of seats were revised and the shape of the seat backs was changed. As a result, seat comfort was improved and seats became more comfortable.
  For safety management, Toyota Passo adopts collision avoidance assist system - Smart Assist II, equipped with the next functions: collision warning function (vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-person), collision avoidance brake assist function (vehicle-to-vehicle), false start control function (front and rear), and line deviation warning function and preceding vehicle start notification function.

  On April 1, 2015, a special specifications car, Toyota Passo L PACKAGE KIRIRI was released for sale. It was developed based on Passo L PACKAGE but adopts the following standard equipment: multi-reflector discharge headlamps, electric remote control folding wing mirrors, air conditioning (with pollen elimination mode) etc.
  Furthermore, the exterior and interior of Passo L PACKAGE KIRIRI were decorated with plating.

  In June 2012, compact car Toyota Passo had the minor change of enhancement of equipment and improvements in fuel consumption.
  As a result of this change, the friction between various parts related to powertrain including transmission was reduced, which enables the fuel consumption of 1.0 liter FF model to be reduced to 21.1 km per liter, making it applicable for 2015 fuel economy standards of Japan. Furthermore, the fuel consumption of 1.0 liter FF type grades, with idling stop (Toyota start-stop system) as an option, was improved to 23.0 km per liter, which enables these grade to meet fuel efficiency standard of Japan by +10%. Therefore, all 1.0 liter FF type grades became applicable for low tax.
  At the same time, a new specification car, Toyota Car 1.0 X KUTSUROGI was released.
  Also, the rear center seat of all Passo models was equipped with 3-point seat belts.

  Toyota Passo is a car, which was developed jointly by Toyota and Daihatsu and produced by Daihatsu. Daihatsu Boon is its sister model. Passo is an entry model of Toyota line-up and focuses on young ladies as its main target. Therefore, particular attention was paid to women's point of view and female staffs mainly participated in the development process.The model released in February 2010 is the second generation of Toyota Passo. The distinctive point of this generation is the new launch of a new grade named Toyota Passo PLUS HANA, with exclusive exterior and interior specifications.
  Toyota Passo PLUS HANA gives a brilliant impression. The body type is a hatchback with 5 doors, the same as the basic grade. Despite of its compact body, Passo PLUS HANA can boast a spacious indoor.
  The engine of Passo is available in 2 types: in-line 3-cylinders 1.0 liter engine and in-line 3-cylinders 1.3 liters engine. All models are available with continuously variable transmission CVT only.
  Drive type is basically FF, but V-Flex full-time 4WD is also available. Fuel consumption of 1.0 liter FF model achieved 22.5km/L (10?15 mode) that meets efficiency standard of Japan by +25%. To provide more eco-friendly driving, an eco-drive indicator and a fuel consumption display function were also equipped.
  For safety features, an anti-lock braking system (ABS) coupled with an electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), driver's seat and front passenger seat SRS airbags etc. are adopted as standard equipment.
  Side curtain airbags are available as an option for all grades. Vehicle stability control (VSC) and traction control (TRC) is also available as an option for some grades.

  In December 2006, the design of the front and rear parts of Toyota Passo were changed. Interior was also renewed; seat covers and instrumental panel area were improved. Engine was also revised and 1.0 liter engine became applicable for low tax incentive.

  In December 2005, Toyota Passo had a minor change, resulting in the improvement of usability. For example, the card for Key-Free System became waterproof. Lighting features were also revised following the latest standards.

  On December 13, 2004, a new sporty grade of Toyota Passo, "Racy", was released for sale.

  Passo was born as a joint development of Toyota Motor Corporation and Daihatsu Motor Corporation, for the first time in the domestic market. It is sold under the name of “Boone” from Daihatsu. It brings together Daihatsu's small car development technology and Toyota's production knowledge of vehicle planning ability. Under the theme of “My partner and compact”, Passo was intended for proposing a car life as a lively partner of everyday life.
  Its exterior design has a unique character with both the strength and the cuteness. Although the overall length is shorter than Vitz, there is enough room inside because the wheelbase is longer. The interior design was aimed to make people feel open and clean. From the point of view of universal design, it has achieved a high functionality with an emphasis on ease of use and fit in the hand.
  Rear seats can be folded in a 60/40 split, making it possible to enjoy a variety of seating arrangements. In addition, Passo has a good maneuverability by making the minimum turning radius 4.3m, the same level as a mini vehicle.
  It has two engine types of 1 liter and 1.3 liter with the combination of 4-speed AT. All patterns of Passo have achieved the “2005 exhaust gas standard 75% reduction level” in the low-emission vehicle certification system of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of Japan, proving Passo is environmentally friendly.
  Moreover, it is equipped with necessary and sufficient safety equipment, such as electronically controlled ABS.
  It has nine body colors to choose from, according to drivers' personality and driving style.
