Honda Fit (GE6/7/8/9) Description

The New Fit! Honda's first full model change answers the question, "What's the best way to evolve the Fit?

Honda's compact car, the Fit, has undergone a full model change. The first-generation Fit was launched in 2001. With its innovative center tank layout and packaging, it became a best-seller, selling a cumulative total of 2 million units in 115 countries around the world. This is the first full model change for the Fit, and the second generation of the new Fit rivals the first generation Fit. The new Fit is the result of evolving the design, packaging, and driving performance of the first generation to the utmost limit to meet the needs of the times.

The concept of the new Fit is "Human FIT". Based on this concept, the development of the new Fit was carried out by applying all the technologies and ideas required to achieve all the surprises and pleasant sensations that people naturally feel.

For the exterior, the forward position of the front pillars was thoroughly pursued in order to create a design that conveys a sense of spaciousness and exhilarating driving. We named it the "Super Forward Form" to express the spaciousness of the space and the forward leaning posture as if driving forward. The front mask adopts a design that narrows from left to right and toward the center, emphasizing the forward cabin. The headlights are larger and sharper in design, giving a fearless impression.

In the side view, the top of the roof is set closer to the rear, and the line that flows from there all the way to the nose expresses a dynamic and unique forward leaning posture. The width of the front pillars and the sides of the roof are varied to create an arching tension, and at the same time, sharp edges are brought out to create a fearless and dynamic shape. At the rear, the upper half of the body, with its narrowed quarter glass and roof end, contrasts with the lower half, which is thick and overhanging from the fenders to the tailgate, to express a sense of stability and lightness.

Roomier and more comfortable interior

The interior was designed not only to provide a large interior space, but also to be comfortable and pleasant to the touch. High quality materials are used throughout the interior space, with careful attention paid to the selection of materials and processing of each part. The instrument panel is designed to give a sense of spaciousness through a three-dimensional structure of overlapping functions. The cockpit features a large three-dimensional meter and a centralized layout of switches to improve instant recognition and intuitive operability. The LCD display shows instantaneous fuel consumption and cruising range for the first time in a small car.

The front seats are based on the Accord's seat frame, and the shape of the springs and padding have been optimized. The seat surface and side supports have been carefully designed to provide comfortable seating and a firm hold. In addition, the shoulders of the seatback are cut diagonally to ensure a clear view from the rear seats.

In the rear seats, the seat width of the left and right seats has been increased by approximately 20 mm, the depth by approximately 15 mm, and the cushion thickness by approximately 10 mm, greatly improving seating comfort. The left and right headrests are recessed to facilitate seat rearrangement and to ensure good rearward visibility. Thanks to the linkage structure, the rear seats can be dived and reversed in one action by pulling a lever, no matter where the front seats are positioned.

A new concept of flexible boards to arrange the luggage space for ease of use

The luggage compartment is equipped with an emergency puncture repair kit and a spare tire-less system that also utilizes the under-floor space, which together with the 64-liter under-floor space provides 427 liters of cargo space. To make this luggage space even easier to use, a new flexible board has been adopted. In order to make this luggage space even easier to use, a new flexible board has been adopted, allowing the luggage to be used in three different modes depending on the purpose.

In addition, a skyroof is available to expand the exhilaration of the interior space. By minimizing the width of the roof on the front side, the view when looking up is greatly expanded, creating a sense of oneness with the sky. The electric sunshade, which can be opened and closed with the flick of a switch, provides a comfortable driving experience all year round.

Newly developed 1.3-liter i-VTEC engine with 100 horsepower

For the powertrain, two types of newly developed i-VTEC engines are available: a 1.3-liter i-VTEC engine that produces 100 horsepower with excellent low-speed torque and high speed range, and improved practical fuel efficiency, and a 1.5-liter i-VTEC engine that delivers a dynamic and torquey driving experience throughout the entire range.

For the transmission, a CVT has been newly developed with the theme of compactness. To improve the starting performance, a torque converter is employed to achieve smooth and powerful acceleration. In addition, to improve fuel efficiency while idling, a system was developed that uses different creep force for low-speed driving and while stopped for optimal control. By turning off the creep force when the brakes are applied, unnecessary fuel consumption is reduced.

Mature road-sailing with more refined driving and style = RS

The 1.5-liter model of the new Fit is also available as the "RS" model. A special chassis was developed in pursuit of a high quality ride. The aim was to create a finish worthy of the "RS" name, which represents road-sailing.

The RS is equipped with paddle shifters that allow the driver to shift gears in a manual-like manner, allowing the driver to switch to manual gear shift mode with a single action while driving in the D position, providing a nimble and enjoyable driving experience. In addition, a 5-speed manual transmission is available for the FWD model so that the powerful 1.5-liter engine can be enjoyed even more.

The exterior features a front grille with gunmetal mesh and satin chrome moldings for a fearless look, a large front bumper with a protruding shape, and a rear bumper that emphasizes stability. For the 5-speed MT model, the tires are further increased to 185/55 R16.

The interior also features an exclusive black interior. Suede-like fabric is used for the sides, and the RS's exclusive stickers are used to create a sophisticated and high-quality interior space for adults.

For the suspension, special suspension settings such as the addition of a rear stabilizer have been applied to improve ride comfort and handling, while MT models receive further suspension settings for a sportier ride. In addition, the VSA system is available as a factory-installed option (standard equipment for the MT model) to enhance stability when turning and to control the car's behavior on slippery surfaces.
