Voltz was released for sale in August 2002. Toyota and GM cooperated in designing the car, and Toyota did the scaling and scoring of it. The car is manufactured in NUMMI in USA, the joint venture company of Toyota and GM, and is imported to Japan. The car itself was already unveiled at Tokyo Motor show 2001. Its target is the youth, living with active lifestyles. It has a compact-class size body length, and a large-class size of tread length and height inside the car. It is the sports utility wagon that integrates the fun of driving and functional character. Its design expresses strength of SUV taste and jaunty with the characteristic V lined front grill, sharp headlights and sideviews that look like the one of coupe's. Interior is in dark gray color, with sharp instrument panel, 4 eye meter and metal-decorated clusters, giving people impression of sports cars. Rear seats can be folded in a 60/40 split, making them flexible in use. Its back door has the glass hatch for loading on/off the luggage in small spaces. It adopts 2 types of 1.8 liter DOHC engine. Its basic transmission is 4-speed AT, but depending on the grade 6-speed MT can be equipped as well.
